Gateway International Assurance (GIA) Review

Gateway International Assurance Overview

Gateway International Assurance Company (GIA) LLC is a something of a newcomer to the UAE car insurance market, but has steadily grown its portfolio of products during that time.

The company’s consumer insurance offering includes home, medical, personal accident, life, travel, all risk insurance, as well as car insurance. And their corporate insurance products include motor fleet insurance for fleets of more than five vehicles.

GIA was founded in 2011 by Humaid Obaid Al Muhairi and currently has 28 employees and annual revenues of $7 million (according to ZoomInfo). This relative youthfulness as a company belies the fact that GIA is the exclusive UAE underwriting agent for the Arabia Insurance Company, a Lebanese company founded in 1944, (underwriters issue policies and settle claims). Operating in nine Arab countries, Arabia has been in the UAE since 1962.

Since Gateway International Assurance was founded, the managing director has been George Ashkar, who has almost 45 years experience in the MENA insurance industry.

Gateway International Assurance FAQs

What sort of car insurance must I have according to UAE law?

In the United Arab Emirates it is mandatory to have third-party cover when you own a car. This sort of insurance pays out to a third party (another person) if you are involved in an accident and it is your fault. This means that nobody in the UAE will find him or her self out of pocket should he or she be the innocent party in a motor vehicle accident.

Will Gateway International Assurance pay out if my car is stolen?

Yes, the company’s comprehensive package covers financial loss if your vehicle is stolen.

Does Gateway International Assurance cover my car in Oman and other GCC countries?

Cross border travel is not included in the default comprehensive package, but give the company a call and they may be able to extend your cover.
